I’ve got a Question!

I talk to many people. It comes naturally to me. I’m so interested to hear their stories, share in their memories, discover the similarities we may have experienced in our past with places we’ve been, and people we’ve known. I’ll often ask a question and then sit back and enjoy the response as I see the memories begin to flicker in that person’s eyes as they revisit that specific time in their life.

Since I began ‘Button Jar Stories’ people have been so gracious to let me know how much they love the concept and embrace the passion we all have in wanting to preserve precious memories from the past for the future.  But I often hear the same phrase time and time again…..

“I would so love to do this myself or even with my parents, but I’d have no idea where to begin.”

Writing your life story is not easy.  Writing any story is not easy. If it were, we’d all be doing it. It’s daunting, overwhelming and a case of once you start, where do you stop.  These are all the questions I asked myself over and over again when I first looked for a way to help people write about the times in their life they want remembered. I knew there had to be a simpler way. It needed to happen.  I knew it was too important to let these stories buried in our hearts and souls to become forgotten within families.

I found a way to make it easy.  To make it so simple and so doable. No one needed to be a Writer, or a Wordsmith or even a Spelling Bee Champion.  They just need to either be able to talk, or tap a keyboard.  The answer was right in front of me.  It goes back to what we have all done so skillfully many times a day throughout our entire life without giving it a second thought.

The answer was…. ‘Just ask a question!’

‘Button Jar Stories’ IS…. about asking one question at a time.  You don’t even have to think about what question to ask, I’ve done that for you.  I’ve used my skills and experience as a Writer to create questions which open up the pathway to so many memories for yourself or your loved ones.  It’s pretty much like a giant jigsaw of life.  All the memories that some to light from each question become that person’s story.  Their life story. And it happens by just asking one question.

It’s not about beginning at DAY ONE of your life.  It’s about asking one question and writing about that one memory, one event, one person, one time in life that fills hearts with warmth and eyes with tears at revisiting that time in life that meant so much. Imagine, just really imagine how incredible then that book will be to read in years to come.  For your children, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren to read. Those questions become stories which become your book to keep and hand down from generation to generation.

‘Button Jar Stories’ is so unique.  There is nothing quite like it out there because it is that simple. Preserving your memories is that simple. Starting, is that simple. It is just asking one question at a time of someone you love.

This is your life. The only one you’ll remember….so WHAT are you waiting for?
